Dear Readers,
After 6 months of planning, saving, preparing, dreaming and doing. The day finally came June 19th! I woke up around 8:30 and immediately started setting up tables and chairs, icing down drinks, strategically placing flamingos through out the Drive-In. My friend Brittani was the first to arrive right around 2:00. She had been given the job of making the official "As Time Goes By" Cake (Brittani is the Casablanca's in-house pastry chef) Just look at the wonderful job she did!
The screen, speaker posts, and lawn chairs were all made from mint white chocolate! Britt put more than 30 hours into this cake, and it shows! It seems that no sooner had Brittani arrived that it was time to head into town and rendezvous with the other guests. My my mothers 1973 Chevy seemed like it was crawling at snail speed and finally at 4:45 I pulled into the parking lot. As the truck came to a halt, my theater friends rushed over... It was like a WAVE of GREASER'S coming over the hood, and dear readers I could have died happy right then and there. I hopped out of the truck and the first thing I started to look for was Michael's Buick and sure enough all the way from Missouri there was Michael in a black and white bowling shirt! We shook hands and I explained that I had to go buy some ice and then we'd be off to the Casablanca.
A few people in the convoy of cars pulled over just before we got to the gate to challenge us to the Golden Flamingo's.
I cannot describe in words the look on the face of the gate keeper when all 22 of us rolled up to the gate dresses to the nines in 1950's paraphernalia at 5:45...but if i had to try id say the word would be Priceless. I can only imagine what she thought, it literally looked like we had all come through a time warp and stepped right out of the summer of 1956.
After everyone had bought their gate pass, we headed down to the CH&R for a group picture, ( and quite possibly the most historic picture to date)
No sooner was the photo snapped the party was in full swing, We threw on some records and everyone made themselves at home.
It was SOOOOOOOO HOT, but even hotter than the heat was the competition for the coveted gold Flamingos... So to kick off the Party Games everyone prepared for the "Limbo Portion' of what is now (inside joke, snowballed into "The Golden Flamingo Olympics") My friend Zack was good enough to film all the vents and he is making these great videos for us!
As you can tell it was a fierce competiton but our winner Kristen victorious holds her trophy dear!
I know you guys and gals are teaming with anticipation, so.....
Tune in tomorrow for par 2 of 7!
