The 1870's Weren't Good To You, Were They...

Well Dear Readers....
Heres the Scoop. The Pirates of Penzance opens This Thursday July 8th, we are all scrambling around the theater painting and fixing set pieces, cramming lines, and trying to get our music just so-so that the critics will like us and wont run the cast out of town on a rail! ...Oh yeah, and I have Laryngitis...UGH!
(Michelle painting clouds over the ocean)

(Hanna & Margret painting the captains wheel)

(Alla & I painting a tree)
(Michelle and friend John painting the tombstones)
(Our Master Carpenter Rich and Elizabeth hard at work!)

(This is what happens when you leave us unsupervised...)

I am DETERMINED to have my voice back by Thursday night at 7:00pm. I'm tried everything I can think of steam, tea, cough drops and its getting a little better, but still not 100% , so here are some set pieces the cast worked on today.  Since the play was written in 1879 and were setting it as such, our director has gone with a very "Gilded Victorian Era" theme for the show and set. Out main colors our black, red and gold and its all looking great!
Here's the finished product on the ships wheel, I'm really digging the red gold and black, with the teal, navy and white of the sea! Our Director Matt is the same guy who directed the production of Jesus Christ Superstar I was in, I dig pretty much all the stuff he does, very visually dynamic.

So you may be wondering about the title of this post? Well as I said "The Pirates of Penzance was written in 1879, so of course our costuming has to reflect this...  Being the 'Major General' Mutton Chops is just written all over the role...
So Im taking one for the team in dedication to theater...

(Grisley beard before....)
(Mutton Chops after...I know, I know I wanna beat myself up... but hey all's fair in Theater)
With any luck, I'll be able to show you some pictures of my costumes Tuesday! Well off to get some sleep and do more stuff tomorrow!
