Everythings Coming Up Roses... except for the Clagswell Lawn Mower...

Well readers as you know Wednesday is the day I take my Grand mother to the beauty shop! GOD help us all if she isn't in that chair by 1:00!  Yesterday was also the first yard mow of the year for grandma, which i dread because of her lawn mower...

Its a good 30 years old (and even new it wasn't all that great)  A few weeks ago, my dad gave it a long over due tune up, and he said "Everything should work now, the next thing to go out will be that front tire..." WHY I didn't change it then I will never know.... So as I push the lawn mower out of the barn, OF COURSE that tire goes *POP WHOOOOOOOOOSH!*  seriously this mower has more problems than Mr Douglas' Clagswell tractor on Green Acres.
This is NOT my grandmas mower, but it may as well be! Haha the red arrow shows the tire that went flat. So I load grandma in the car and off we go to Atwoods (redneck walmart) to find a new tired. Once I find the right size and tread with no help form any of the 20 some odd  employees standing around... Grandma turns her nose up at the fact its $21.45, we buy it and then I had to run over to Walmart (redneck H.E.B.)  because I needed to pick up the $7 "Rocky Horror Picture Show" dvd while they were on sale for a Drive-In party were having later this month. Next to walmart is a Goodwill, but I didnt want to go... STRANGE I know.. so grandma says "What gives? Your not going to Goodwill? Are you sick?!" So I pull into Goodwill and boy was I glad I did!
I have been searching for a shelf or small table to store movies in Turquoise room, but iv been VERY picky about what I get lol. However when I saw this GOLD  geometric wall shadow box I snatched it up!  I was thinking to myself "ya know that might just work"  I picked up a dvd and WHAT DO YA KNOW?! A Perfect fit.  The sticker on it was for $4.99 and I just so happened to have $5.80 -Thank you Goodwill God's
It can hold 40 dvd's! Im thrilled and can't wait to get it hung in the room! Then I fought the stupid tire on the lawn mower trying to get it off the rim, after 2 hours of fighting, and a good pop in the face form the pry bar id had enough. I took it to our local shop feeling kind of guilty because I was doing what my dad calls "throwing money at a problem" however at the shop, it took 3 grown burly men to get that little tire off its rim. It was SO worth the $5 not to have a 'butt chewing' as we call them in my family with dad

April 14th, 1912

The Titanic strikes an iceberg causing it to sink the the Atlantic Ocean, killing 1500 of its 2200 passengers.  Lack of Life boats, Lack of rudder size, lack of blame, but a tragedy none the less... and it absolutely fascinated me as an 8 year old.

Seriously I cant find pictures but from 4 - 7 grade on April 14th I hosted "Titanic Parties" at my house! we'd order a cake with the ship floating or sinking and a select group of friends would just hang out and talk about it, look through all the picture books I had on the subject. as a party game, we'd strap on those crappy orange life jackets and slide backwards down the slide on the swing set screaming bloody murder as we plunged in the the frigged Atlantic Ocean that was my parents backyard.

As much fun as we had, it was always a serious event and we'd have a moment of silence for all those who lost their lives so long ago on the Ship of Dreams...

"The Nicest Kids In Town"

(I'll explain why a person has been cut out later)

I do like to think that my friends who frequent the Casablanca really are "The Nicest Kids in Town" haha because I build them up and make them behave!  That's only about half of us pictured, but don't we look sharp?   You see in high school I was part of the theater forensics team, and our Director Mrs Dillard had a set of rules for the kids in the program. (nothing extreme) you had to be shaved, dress nice at tournaments,  be polished, polite, and punctual.  So that way if we made the news paper we'd be "the nicest kids in town". Its really rather funny, because in the Broadway show "Hairspray"  there is a musical number of the same title that is STRANGELY like our group. (In the show these kids are pretty much the Mouseketeers  of dancing in 1960's Baltimore.)   Well our group was pretty much the same in the thriving metropolis that is Iowa Park TX.

I love the lyrics to this song, I fall under the "Can't tell a verb from a noun, but were the nicest kids in town" category!

Well I use the same principals out  at the Casablanca, (which the more I think about it is slowly becoming the 'Dogpatch Country Club'....)  At least when we have company other than ourselves.   That doesn't mean were heithans when its just us haha but we know how to act.  9 times out of 10 You have to be invited to the Casablanca by a "member"  to come and hang out. One instance of that 10th person who just invited themselves is in that first picture.....  People have been "blackballed" from the lake... and that's really sad... We dont have a ton of rules, but just  a few that we will NOT bend...

1. No Sex ....( I don't have room for a baby crib in the house...)

2. Respect the house. (This is my stuff, and no it is not 'wicked funny' when you break crap)

3. Do NOT spin records backwards. ( I have a RECORD PLAYER, no where on its casing does it say turn  table beat box... spin it backwards and you'll provably end up with a sore wrist... or maybe sleeping with the fishes?...Just saying...

4 If you smoke do it in the lounge or go outside. (Please, Put your butts in the fire pit NOT THE YARD)

5. (and quite possibly the most important) Don't make an ass out of yourself....

See that's not to much to ask is it?
Im proud of my people,  in the last 5 years we've only had a hand full of people who could play buy these rules, and  so they don't come anymore. Simple as that.

Oh well, their loss...

"So You Know Its Legit Now?... Right?!

Iv got to say Im shocked!

100 Followers, I owe my friend Colleen over at 'discourses of the mind' BIG TIME. See in December of last year she suggested I make a blog for the Casablanca after me regaling her with the colorful stories and going on there.  The first thing I said to her was "Isn't that kind of 90's? ya know everyone having a blog?"  None the less she persuaded me to join Eblogger and set up camp.Boy am I glad I did! : ) In the early days when I was bouncing off the walls because I had 7 followers I NEVER thought id get to 10, and then came 15 the 20 then... one of my class mates told me "your not legit until you have 100 followers..." I told him "Your legit as soon as you have 1 follower (who was Missouri Micheal  over at "The Cul-de-sac-shack" by the way).   But now I am proud to say we, (because I owe a lot to you readers) are 100 strong! AND If you go to Google type in "Everyone Goes to ...."  "Everyone Goes to Mick's" is the the 4th entry from the top!

...Go ahead, open a new tab and try it.... I'll wait...

Now that you have that out of your system, I have another interesting conversation from a friend abotu my blog, this one took place back in the 60's (of followers) and goes like this!

"So what Do you write about?"

"Oh just stuff, the lake house and day to day junk..."

"And people read that?"
"Well I guess so, haha they leave regular comments..."

"So you just talk about yourself?"

"Well no, I talk about stuff I find, stories funny things that happen...

"AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY READ THIS?!"

"DID I STUTTER?! Yes they read it, and some of them actually ENJOY it... if you can wrap your mind around that concept..."

His comment worried me a little, but I kept writing and you kept commenting so I guess were doing well!   Iv got to say iv enjoyed getting to know all of you, I litterally roll out of bed and start the day by reading other peoples blogs!

Well Im just gushing now, and please note if I sound cocky about 100 I really don't mean to be...  I do believe a giveaway is in order! But im going to be selfish and take a few days to find something MARVELOUS to give away. :)

Thank you all SO much for reading, I honestly cant say that enough!

Went to the Casablanca for the first time in what seems like EVER and much to my horror that terrible lady Mother Nature has been reeking havoc on the back yard while I was busy being a 'Superstar'... weeds in the Drive-In, weeds in the gravel pit, weeds under the stairs... it was all a little over whelming! See in a regular year iv already started going to the lake about 3 weeks ago,  but such is not the case! So I got the sprayer and reel mower out and started raging the war that is "The Battle of the Drive-In"  (for the moment im winning) and a few hours later it looked somewhat like what our postcards portray...  Im so excited I only have 1 more weekend of obligations and then I will be able to spend FULL weekends at the Casablanca!

However right now I have to do my dreaded Spanish homework...

hope you like the new spring postcard/invitation!

A Dollar Ten!

So today was the "City Wide" garage sale in good old Iowa Park Texas...
For $1.10 I scored myself, 2 lamps from the 1960's, a magazine rack, 2 more records to add the the collection, a "Lil Abner" glass from 1968 and a Samsonite hat box.
I'll provably give the magazine rack a fresh coat of gold paint, its going in the 'Turquoise Room'. My hands down favorite find is this Lil Abner glass from 1968 ... $0.25

My second favorite find of the day, is that hat box! Let me explain, When I was maybe 14 I saw a movie called "Crazy In Alabama"
In  the movie, the main character kills her husband and to make sure he wont follow her she cuts his head off and put it in a hat box.  However before she can find a hat box she keeps the severed head in a tupperware cake container in a brown grocery bag. While on the run she goes into an up scale lady shop in Louisianan where she explains to the sales lady "Do you, Do you remember that Audry Hepburn in it? The one at Tiffany's? I want one like that with a big floppy brim...and a really nice hat box" Its hysterical in the movie! So I snatched this $0.10 green hat box up Im debating taping the gold snaps up and spraying it black like the one it the movie.... The close and sets are great, and it has a simi-star studded cast. Iv found the more you watch it the funnier / meaningful it gets.  More than likely all the picture we take at the lake will be kept in it

Well that's what Ya get for a $1.10! Tonight is also our last night of Jesus Christ Superstar,  I don't want it to end, but at the same time im ready to shave this FREAKIN' beard off my face, get a hair cut, and go to the lake on the weekends again!
