Got The 222- On June22- For My 22, -My Birthday!

Well Readers, This week has been a whirlwind!
Thursday after work I had to make an emergency trip to Missouri for personal reasons, that's all I'm going to say about it, don't worry everything is fine now. But Friday morning, on a lighter and brighter note I met up with Patricia who was on vacation in Branson with her family and she and I went to visit Michael to traverse the great state of Missouri for great deals and Pyrex on my Birthday! I apologize for the helter-skelter pictures, my mind really wasn't on blogging but here we go!

We visited the self proclaimed "Biggest antique mall in Missouri" but I was so mesmerized by everything I didn't think to get a picture, I picked up quite a few pieces of Pyrex and some other goodies I'll post once I get them to the Casablanca. After that...

As is tradition on my Birthday Patricia found what she wants to wear to Thanksmass!

She found this GREAT 1950's white felt circle skirt. Unfortunately it was way to small for her, but she liked it so much were going to enlist a friends help in making an exact replica for Patricia to wear in December!

It's simple, border line tacky, and too perfect for words... we love it!

Stopped in to look here- at the Gillioz Theater in Springfeild MO.

Boy it was neat.

We stopped at the Springfield Whistler's Burger for lunch, they had a special  five (tiny) cheeseburgers, a basket of fries and a drink fro $9.00 my diets ruined but you cant beat that deal!

I had my first Coca-cola in 25 weeks, its the only one I get this year haha all part of that dang "diet" after lunch we hit up a few more stores and invited the sport of "Extreme Thrifting"

 Then Michael took us over to Pittsburgh KS for my FAVORITE fried Chicken!

I LOVE this table so much, it came out of the original Chicken Annie's from the 50's and has a built in lazysusan.  I would simply adore finding one like this for the Casablanca! (If anyone out there knows where one is and is for sale, SERIOUSLY send me an email and lets talk!)

Its the BEST fried chicken I've ever had and Patricia and I are always willing to make the 400 mile trek to get it if we can!

Stuffed silly we headed back for a quiet evening at Michael's, he made me a "Minnie's Pie" (minus the "special ingredient"  for my Birthday!

Patricia  with Michael's help made a dream come true for me, She got me the Pyrex 222 solid yellow 8"x8" Brownie pan for my 22nd Birthday ON June the 22nd! I have hunted and hunted for this pan and she totally surprised me with it. They had been hunting it since January and now that I have it it completes my collection of 222's!

I had a marvelous time, Michael was kind enough to let us spend the night so we could head the next morning. We stayed up till all hours chatting and enjoyed a viewing of "Steel Magnolias" (Patricia had never seen it) and laughed and cried along with the movie. The next morning when Patricia wouldn't wake up to get ready to leave Michael and I found an effective way to get her up!

After she swore heavily under her breath, recovered we had a breakfast fop chocolate pie and loaded our new treasures in the car. We said our goodbyes and thanked Michael for his hospitality, we really do appreciate him letting us come up and see him! It made my 22nd Birthday so special, thank you

Then we were of to the next leg of the Journey...

Cast Party!

Well the show is over, boy was it a BLAST! Last Sunday Patricia and I along with friends hosted a party for the cast as well as some new friends and out of town visitors!

Now for a Special Bulletin, this just in!

 

Friends Brandon, Ben & Jennifer made their third visit to the Casablanca this Sunday, three visits means they are now official members! 

But wait, there's more!

Terrace's friends Jenny & Jess came down from Pennsylvania to see the show, and graced us with their presence at the Casablanca! We really loved getting to meet them, they were great company and hope they visit again someday! I mean it ladies!

The Zombie Prom cast gathered at the Casablanca, almost all of us bringing food and drink to share! I popped a meatloaf in the oven and Ben had been working on a to die for pulled pork.

In no time at all we had a heck of a buffet set up-

Laurie's terrific potato salad, deviled eggs, a house salad, and potato fixings. Needless to say it was a plate full!

After dinner Jennifer & Katy served up some cake/ Oreo balls they'd made just for the occasion.

After Dinner we enjoyed a few rounds of the game "What if" in the lounge...

While most got ready to play the game, friends Laurie and John graciously helped do the dishes, like I say every time Thank you guys! You didn't have to!

After a few rounds of "What if" we all moved out to the Drive-In for a showing of short film  "Zombie Prom" based on the script from our show!

All in all it was a wonderful evening with good food and great friends!

Zombie Prom

 Well Readers, Show number 16!
 Zombie Prom is one of my personal favorites, Backdoor Theatre put it on as a summer youth musical in 2005  and my mother wouldn't let me audition hoping that this "theater thing" was just a phase haha. Well I pined and waited and seven years later my chance finally came up to be in this hysterically funny show!  The time the 1950's (I choose they school year 1956-57) and the setting the all American "Enrico Fermi High School" (Named for the beloved father of the Atom bomb) nestled in the shadow of  "The Gary Francis Powers- Nuclear plant" (Named for the famed spy pilot!).

I modeled our "exterior setting" after this old postcard Altus High School, in Altus Oklahoma. I love that the stone work over the door looks like nuclear cooling towers!  All though our setting is the "Atomic 50's" unlike most productions of this show I chose to stay away from the "ultra atomic/modern" school.  As the show opens there is a line about "having our ninth annual science fair", if you do historic math 1957 - 9 = 1948. So the School building would be built and modeled differently that it would have been if it were brand new in 1957. The Set was supposed to resemble an interior hallway of a high school.

This show was on a smaller stage, so I went with "less is more", the actors and songs are really what brings this show to life.

For our sports team, we came up with "The Enrico Fermi Rockets", for our school colors I choose Burgundy and Navy blue (for/from our letter sweaters). I also neatly added Air Raid warning signs as the threat of attack is eminent. Later int he show a sign up sheet for student council and an ad for the local drive-In movie theater are also added to the board.

Since the High School is adjacent to the towns Nuclear Power Plant, it wouldn't be complete without a few of these...

 One of the neat little details I did for this show came in inspiration from this vintage public address speaker.

I really liked the design on the speaker, and when the director told me she wanted double doors on the set, I had a plan! I transferred the wooden inlaid patter from the speaker on to the double doors. In a perfect world we would have been able to cut out the blue areas and make them look like translucent glass, but for this production paint will do!

I am happy with the way everything turned out, as I said before I've been dying to do this show! It is so much fun and we've all been loving every minuet of it. I need to give a special thanks to Director Kathy Jackson for letting me run a muck on set, and trusting me thought all of it haha! Also a Thank you to Blaine-  Backdoor Theatre's Master Carpenter for letting me help on the sets.  It's always weird "playing in someone else's   playground"- but I'm glad I got to, thank you Blaine!

It's always sad when friends have to move away and two of our best members have been called to Albuquerque NM by the Air Force. Instead of crying, we did things the Casablanca way and threw a cocktail party for our dear friends!

Here at the Casablanca we try not to say "Good Bye" (even though we did in the video) we like to think that at some point friends will make their way back to us and party once again, so instead when members part from us we say  "See You Later!"
