#4 On The List of Things A Homeowner DREADS of Hearing.

Neighbor: "Hello Mr. Jordan?!"

Me: "Yes?"

Neighbor: " I think you roof is on my front lawn, you better get out here."

Me: "How bad is it?!"

Neighbor: " Most of the roof is gone, come quick."

*  *  *

This is what I heard when I picked up the phone at 7:23 this morning. You talk about STOPPING  YOU HEART! My mother and I jumped in the truck with a trailer (to pick up the tin roof) and drove like no tomorrow to get to the lake. My stomach doing flip flops, the very idea of the roof off the Casablanca, windows smashed, it was enough to make me sick.  We finally get to the Lake, go through the gate come down the hill to my place and this is what I see...
At first I was confused, then a wave of relief came over me thinking that this anonymous neighbor must have had the wrong house...  I hardly would call 4 flipped lawn chairs 'pretty bad'.  I knew the winds must have been bad because they had sucked the cover off of the coke box. Just as I was walking back to the truck to tell mom everything was alright I hear her say "OH MY GOD!".  You see, the neighbor had been trying to reach Mr. Jordan, my FATHER and for good reason...
There used to be a roof up there. this is how mom found her place. The freezer wide open and still running, roof gone and in a shambles... but were just getting started.
(That would be part of our roof just left of the slide, the piece behind that came from the nebhior on the FAR side of my parents place.)
(this is the dock on the far side of my parents place, ripped down to the studs...by 90 MPH winds)
(Speaking of studs, the wind not-so-conveniently placed in the side and roof of my parents 1946 trailer.)
(HOLY CRAP!)

(Just above Mom & Dad's bed)
This is what we've pieced together,  the 90 MPH wind hit (and may have been a tornado) ripping the roof off of the dock on the far side of my parents.
Their roof came off in 1 giant sheet flying through the air landing HERE on my parents trailer.
The wind carried the giant piece of roof and smashed it into the place next to my parents landing HERE.
The wind then gusted one more time bringing the roof to its final resting place on the dock 2 doors down from my parents house.
(looking down into my parents dock)
(The back of the cove, all that you see in the water came from the dock on far side of mom and dads)
(These studs also came from the far dock)

(this must have been when the winds hit, because it knocked the battery out of the clock. AMAZING how the winds can rip the roof down to the studs and launch it close to 600ft away, yet leave a three pound dollar store clock on the wall.)

Luckily no one was hurt last night, and even thought the damage looks bad at the end of the day its just tin and boards.  We built it once, and we'll do it again. (Guess what I get to do Saturday after College Graduation... have a party? Naw who wants to do that.. Lets re-tin a roof!  (for those of you just joining us that's heavy sarcasm)  *Sigh, oh well such are the ways of 'Lake Life' : )

Iv got to say, I doubted myself at last Sundays auditions, but last night we focused on getting the new people caught up on try out and  trying out The Major General and Fredericks parts. I believe there were 9 of us lined up to try out for Major General,  4 went ahead of me and I was the 5th.   As you know from my other post the Majors song is a super fast tongue twister, and the Pianist was taking it slow where everyone could get the hang of the words. Well dear bloggers i have dreamed about this part since I was 6 so you better BELIEVE I came to this audition 'loaded for bear " I walked up on stage and the pianist said "well how fast can you read?"  and I said "Oh lets try it" so we took off slow and I sang the first verse. Then the 2nd time we went a little faster, but still only about half the actual speed to the song. When I finished singing, I asked her if we could go faster?  to which she exclaimed "FASTER?!"   The stage manager turned to the director and said "Hes going to do it show speed!"   The director says "I like the sass you bring to the character so just go wild with expressions."  and round 3 beings...  Im not usually a bragger, but I did it flawlessly and finished the verse to an uproar of applause, and an offer to ' be the father of someones children'!  After that the director stopped the auditions for Major General and we moved on!  (YES NAILED IT! )  I thought to myself, and sure enough!   The only down side to all this, is I will have to  re-grow my beard and mustache, (and I really wanted to be clean shaved for "As Time Goes By" but oh well.. that's Theater!  Gosh you guy have no idea how excited I am to tackle this project, Simon in Jesus Christ Superstar only had 1 song, and iv been informed that the General is in at least 5.  We start rehearsals tomorrow at 7:00 and I cannot wait!

"Hell-OOOOOOOOO BAY-BEEEEEE" So This Is How It All Got Started...

So Although it was Mothers Day, It was revealed to me what may have been the VERY cause of my like (later to love passion) of the 1940's &  50's.  When I was but 2 years old,  Memorial Auditorium  (Where I saw "Always Patsy Cline" Saturday)  had 1 one night only limited event featuring none other than.....
JERRY LEE LEWIS
Now dear bloggers, I nearly fell out of my chair! 'THE KILLER' had been HERE in our town?!  Then mom proceeded to BLOW MY MIND when she showed me this...
If this were a Lifetime movie I would have exclaimed something like "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!" however it was more like "HO-LY ....." haha!  Mom went on the explain that Jerry Lee was 2 hours late to the concert, and She went around to the stage door to meet him. When he finally did show up he stepped out of a van and asked my mother "Any thing I can do for you young lady?"  Mom said, "We'll id like for you to take a picture with my son?"  AND HE DID! As it turns out  his son Jerry Lee Lewis III, wasn't much old than I was so he was glad to take a picture. He then stood there with my mom and a few other people for 20 minuets chatting while the Auditorium filled with almost 3,000 people waited!
In this picture, Jerry Lee is holding me. and my mom is the woman in the back. No idea who that girl was... OH and that chicken scratch you see on the white thing? That my friends would be the ticket stub, which he signed!  Mom said after that they all went into the auditorium and saw his show, she and my dad were worried the music might be to loud for me. But apparently I clapped, bounced and danced in my seat the whole time!
So there you have it, the man who started it all.... I may have to name my next Lawn Chair after him!

My Momma Is Gonna Kill Me...

 It started out innocently...
I woke up this morning, and went to the bank to cash my pay check. Now you see out little Hamlet of a town was mapped out in 1888, with massive gardens and all these thing... but MAINLY with a "Main street" that has 1 lane going and 1 lane coming with a median in between. Well the State National Bank ( My family has banked there since the State bank across the street merged with the National bank and that was just after the 'Crash of 29')  I cash my check. Then I was in hot pursuit of the Dollar general, because Zootsuitmama  informed us this morning on her blog  that they were carrying the Elusive Lawn Flamingo this season.

Found them! Took everything I had not to blow my pay check on all the flamingos, but then this wise old lady standing next to me says "well you only ever need two... unless, you WANT your yard to look like Sh*t"  haha!   I leave the Dollar store with my pay check intact, then as if fate its self  I come to a halt (there was a stop sign) and beside the stop sign was a poster board with the 3 words of doom written on them... "ESTATE SALE TODAY"   So I pull into a parking space,  as I walked in at first it just looked like junk, to the untrained eye... first I found a 10 cent souvenir ash tray from Arizona, then I found the gold glass holder 50 cents , The I found this nifty "Can-O-Mat"  wall mount can opener... and  I asked myself "how has the Kitchen of the Casablanca gotten along with out one!?" $1
The GREATEST surprise however came when I found a box in the corner,  there was only one thing you could see from the hole in the box letting in light...
"MINE!!!!!!"
$10 AND it had the the beaters, and both of the mixing bowls!  I grabbed the stool for $1 (it will be recovered in red and reside in the turquoise room.) I headed out to my Grandmothers to do some lawn work, she loves to plant flowers, and has now developed quite a system she sits in a lawn chair while I wallow through the flower beds!  Today I made a shocking discovery as I knocked a rather large mound of dirt over this was looking up at me.
I whisked the dirt off flipped it over and much to my surprise....
Buried in the not 1 BUT 2 of the salad bowls to the set I pulled out of the garage attic a while back!  These plates not ONLY survived being water basins for grandmas plants, but going all winter with out filling up with water, freezing and breaking is just amazing, so I will be washing them up and taking them to the lake.
And the fun's not over yet!  Tonight im going into town to see that AMAZING musical "Always Patsy Cline"

The Backdoor Theater where I was in Jesus Christ Superstar did this show a few years back and it was a HIT! It honestly could have run forever... there's 23 Patsy Cline hits in the score, its a show that will make you laugh, cry and melt your heart!  (I went and saw it 3 times, during the first run at Backdoor) Tonight they are having a special 1 night only revival of the show at Memorial Auditorium in Wichita Falls and its going to be quite a show!

Eye Candy...A Very LONG picture Post.

As you may or may no know, the Thursday before last I loaded up with my dad and sister and we headed to the "Pate" Swap meet at Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas.  As Promised here are pictures of things I saw, might own, pine for, or were just way to cool no to take a picture of!
Pegasus is the first thing you see in the early morning light! I would LOVE to have one of these neon babies flying high above the gravel pit....however it would take a LOT of record dishes to pay for this guy!Once you walk through the gate, its Cars, Parts, Junk, Vintage stuff as far as the eye can see!
(This Buick was fantastic!)

(This car reminded me of Gumby's)
(Very cool Train/grills !)
(Ah Texans, we are a 'grilling' people....)
(Look at the light fixture on the table!)
(Coke, Dr Pepper, and Pepsi boxes in abundance...)
(each one more  rare and exspeinsive than the last *please not heavy sarcasm*)
When I saw that Ferris wheel cart I wanted it for the Casablanca! However $700 i'll pass)
(This Ford made me think of MaryDeluxe for some reason... then I got closer)
( *smiles* 'Damn I'm Good'....)

('For those who think young'...and absolutely cant get a COKE anyplace else...)
 (My sister Mable... )
(Me-owwwwwww, look at them tail lights!)
("This my idiot sister, is Sea foam...")
(when I spotted this I thought of  Vintage Chris! My sister and I both broke out into chorus' of "The Age of Aquarius")
( to dad "See TOLD YOU all this 'crap' was making a comeback ...")
("This My idiot sister is TURQUOISE...")
( Hands down my favorite car at the whole place, next year I am going to print out a BUNCH of our Casablanca Postcards, and give them to these people in hopes they might show up at the CH&R in their vintage cars.)
(LOVED these but for $75 I could make them...)
( "Ah... my evil lawn chair nemesis we meet again... You think your 'powder coating' and high prices are superior to my good old fashion elbow grease?! HAH you are wrong sir... and over priced.".)
( A POX ON YOUR INDUSTRIAL RESTORED LAWN FURNITURE & HIGH PRICES! )

That was about it For the Swap meet, It was every BIT of a 10 mile walk, but I saw some pretty cool stuff (this is just the condensed version)  $500 for a lawn chair HA! I will take my $30 fixer upper anyday...
