Fasting Is HARD!

I mean you wouldn't think not thrifting for three weeks would be easy, RIGHT?!
(Well I slipped... 1950's Tree Skirt & 60's Hallmark cutouts)
Girlfriend Patricia and I have been saving pennies and "not doing anything fun" the last three weeks in prepfor a whirlwind road trip we'll be taking this weekend. But after lots of restraint a little estate sale popped up on Friday that sounded more dreamy than it actually was...
So away to this "fabulous" sale we went only to find out it wasn't quite as fabulous as the ad had made it out to be. I was a seven room house and there were a few treasures but it was alright.  I got the above tree skirt for $5 I have wanted a true 50's one forever! I picked up the cardboard stand ups as an impulse by at the register. they are in so/so shape and I'm not sure what to do with them just yet.
(Egg slicer, Pyrex measuring cup, and pot holders!)
Patricia headed for the bedrooms to look for treasures and I whisked through the kitchen. I found the egg slicer for $1.00 so we'll be enjoying Chef Salads all summer. I picked up the Pyrex Measuring glass because I have one exactly like it at the Casablanca and we always seem to need one more measuring cup when cooking. I found the pot holders in a bedroom of all places, they had a table piled with all the linens in a bedroom and it was like a catalog of style from the late 40's through out the 70's the deeper you dug into the pile the better things got!  When I saw the "Reddy Kilowatt"  pot holders for $2 for both I pounced!

At first Pat couldn't get why I was so excited over a set of pot holders, but then I explained that "I thought he was "General Electric's" 1950's mascott, and we have an 'All Electric' stove at the lake so its funny" but as it turns out 'Reddy' represented more than 300 power companies and been around since 1926! I know they aren't worth much, but its just that one more tiny piece of detail that adds to the Casablanca!

Not a bad  haul for $10.00! Now no more spending until the trip!

My dad was an electrical engineer, so we had lots of Reddy Kilowatt items around the house when I was a kid. They always bring back memories.

LOVE Redo Kilowatt! I always thought (for years) that he was only Kansas City Power and Light, but no! Anyway, I have a Redi Kilowat recipe box! I'll have to post a picture of it!
